Entry #7. Fresh

Documentary Science Films: Fresh (2009) | Redpath Museum - McGill University

Fresh
The film Fresh is a documentary film that shows people about the issue of agriculture and how farmers are trying to change the food production system.

I am a student that have never know much about the food production process and never thought I would have a chance to know more about it. After watching this documentary Fresh, I understood much more about where are my foods coming from, what are people working in the agriculture field done to produce a massive amount of food for Americans, and how are people working in the agriculture field accomplished those works.

The purpose of this video is to let people know what we are eating and where those foods come from. Many Americans are unfamiliar with the productions of the foods they eat. They don't know how much it takes for all the farmers and workers to bring all those safe, packaged food in the grocery stores. This is a very educational film for most Americans because most Americans don't work at a farm, they buy foods instead of growing their own foods.

Fresh has a very good way to show the main idea. It films those actual farmers works on the farm, farmers tell the audiences their actual experience about how they worked. At the same time showing the real cattle farms and crop fields.

The most interesting aspect of the film Fresh is it has a comparison between a large scale industrialized food production system and a small scale natural food production system. Farmers from both sides talk about the benefits their system has and the problem they are facing. A large-scale production system has a problem of using too many chemicals that causes pollutions and unsafeness of foods, but they have to massive produce in order to keep the price low. A small scale production system which has organic foods don't have enough amount to make everyone afford the price.

This film makes me think of how hard American farms work in order to feed the whole country. The obstacle these farms are facing is what we cannot imagine. After watching this film, I would like to buy more organic foods, they are more healthy and tastes better than big production foods.

This film can affect so many people that know not much about the food industry. It might bring many people interest in architecture and animal husbandry. Americans need to know the issues in for food making and this film is a good one that would inform Americans. People should know how hard those farmers work to keep foods safe and cheap for Americans. Compare to other countries, they don't have as safe and cheeps foods as Americans do. Americans should not waste food while they eat after watching this documentary.

Americans should care about what people eat, food is vital to our daily life. No one would want to be afraid that the food is unsafe, the food is out of stock, or the food is not affordable. We need food every single day, that's why we should all care about what kind of food we are eating. This film Fresh gives a very comprehensive content about our food.
